Fifth Annual Santa Fe International Half Marathon Returns September 18–20 With a New Course Through Agua Fría Village

Press release · September 3, 2026

SANTA FE, N.M. — The Capitol Ford Santa Fe International Half Marathon returns for its fifth annual running the weekend of September 18–20, and this year the race looks different. For the first time, the Half Marathon and the 3-Amigos Relay start at Romero’s Park in the historic village of Agua Fría and finish at Reunity Resources Farm, on a route that follows the Santa Fe River corridor through one of the city’s oldest communities.

Race morning is Sunday, September 20. The wheelchair division — handcycle and push-rim — rolls out at 7:25 a.m. MT, with the Half Marathon and Relay following at 7:30. The 5K starts at 8:00 a.m. from Reunity Resources Farm and loops through Agua Fría Village before returning to the same finish line the half marathoners cross. Every distance runs at elevation: the course tops out at 6,883 feet at the mile-9 turnaround, making it one of the highest half marathons in the country.

The party at the finish runs from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Reunity Resources Farm, with food, music, and the awards ceremonies (5K at 9:45 a.m.; Half Marathon and Relay at 10:45 a.m.) Post-race food is served in partnership with Santa Fe YouthWorks, and age-group winners take home medallions handcrafted by Maasai artisans.

A race weekend, not just a race

The weekend opens downtown. The Health & Wellness Expo and packet pickup run Friday, September 18 from 12:00 to 6:00 p.m. and Saturday, September 19 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Warehouse 21 in the Santa Fe Railyard. Saturday at 1:00 p.m., the “Catalyst for Change” panel brings together athletes, advocates and health leaders on adaptive sports and global wellness. On Sunday at 9:00 a.m., the Kids 1K Dash takes over Reunity Resources Farm, with a medal for every young finisher.

The weekend’s cultural thread starts early — with the youngest runners: Gasali Adeyemo, the Santa Fe–based master of Yoruba adire textile art, leads a free hands-on indigo dyeing workshop for Kids 1K Dash runners on Sunday, September 13 at Reunity Resources — a week before race weekend — where kids create their own hand-dyed race shirts using techniques passed down through generations.

“For our fifth anniversary, we wanted the course to feel deeply connected to local heritage — winding through Agua Fría Village down to the farm. It’s incredibly meaningful to see this event grow into a platform where community connection, high-desert performance, and global traditions all run together on the same path.” — Abraham Kosgei, race founder

Know before you go

A Santa Fe Trails bus shuttle loops the three parking areas on race morning — to the start 6:00–7:45 AM and back to parking 10:00–11:30 AM. Half Marathon and Relay participants park at Romero’s Park; 5K runners park at Reunity Resources Farm, where their race starts and finishes. Both lots are limited, and roads into the start close at 7:00 a.m. sharp — organizers ask runners to arrive early and carpool where they can. Race-morning packet pickup at Romero’s Park (6:00–7:00 a.m.) is available for the Half and Relay only.

Registration for all distances is open at RunSignup. Full course maps, schedules and logistics are at the event schedule.
